After our snack, a nap and dinner at a local restaurant, we hit the evening streets of Florence, which greeted us with a light rain. We reached the Piazza della Signoria and the Palazzo Vecchio, which was brightly lit against the dark cloudy skies.

This is the Medici family church – the family commissioned Brunelleschi to build this structure in 1418, but the first basilica on this site dates back to 393 AD. The exterior of the facade was left unfinished, which I found amazing given the family’s demand for everything to be beautiful – Michelangelo was later commissioned to finish the facade but his design was never implemented.
